Photo Series Two
Reflection
1. My photos taken for photo series two share that somerset has a very interesting past and present, they also connect the two as well. My photos also incorporate how much nature is involved in somerset. Some of the photos include a lot of reflections between water and glass, I feel as though this reflection shares the history behind of somerset behind the photo and the photographer. Some of the locations where my photos were taken are very important because they are locations that were incorporated into past industries and past landmarks that were important to the past life of somerset.
2. In my first photo I took a photo of the old and new bridge and then layered them over one another in photoshop. I took the photo of both bridges on a trail that was right next to them. I composed the shot by taking both photos at a similar angle and similar distance away. The second photo is of the end of the dock taken by the water near the public television building. This photo is a comparison between the developed industry and the old ways of the past. It shows the new industry in the background while also comparing the old location of water industries. An old bridge was located near the dock, it was used as a shipping factor across the river involving coal and steel. But now we use steam and incorporate wind into our present day technology.

Photo Series 3
Reflection:
1. My Photo Series conveys that in Somerset and Berkley there are things that have changed very much over time and there are some things that are still the same over time. The series also conveys that there is also a very dense amount of history in both Somerset and Berkley.
2. The significance of the locations that I chose in my Photos Series illustrate my idea of history very well because some locations have changed very much or not at all. Some of the photos incorporate the past scheme either overlaid or next to the current scheme of the location. This lets the observer know what was there in the past and what is there currently.
3. I manipulated the images by placing them over each other using opacity and also lining them up side by side to create a diptych connecting them beside each other.
4. For the first photo in this Photo Series, I took the original image of the river and inserted a cropped out portion of historic boats from another image i had taken that day. I then converted the photo to greyscale and touched some minor scaling issues.

Short Story: (Image #1)
It was a dark rainy night in the middle of a cold November day, nothing was relevant in the mind of the young travelers, all they had on their minds was the aspect of exploring the infamous gloomy woods of Old Creek Village. Rumors of a haunting from friends at school add to the heightened fright. The story includes a young teenager named Jessica who was murdered in the woods by the town clerk. No one ever found the murderer but they say that he always killed while sitting down. The innocent girl never saw it coming as she was taken from her house while she was watering the garden in the backyard. To this day people still believe that her soul lurks the woods scaring people away as she lays to rest amongst her peace.
The young teenagers traveled into the woods and decided to face their fears on a dark Friday night. They hopped the rusted-broken down fence that blocked off the woods. Nerves were running through their spines telling them to turn around and go home. But they never listened. The group continued on walking deeper into the woods along the beaten trail. Sounds of screeching crows and broken branches add to the ambiance of the woods. After an extensive walk they eventually reached the point of Jessica’s murder. Daring as these kids were; they began to request the dead’s presence. They chanted the infamous phrase “Jessica, Jessica come sit down, and follow us as we show you around”. After the spirit had not begun to show up after a couple of times; they decided to give up. They headed back down to the trail to entrance because they knew that she would not show. Out of nowhere they began to hear screams and their phones went dead. Pitch-black as the night, they heard a whisper from someone, it said to them that “Sit down and let me show you what has happened to me”.

Portfolio Selection
- Photo 1:
I chose this photo to be apart of my Portfolio because I felt that it included good composition, technical, and communication aspects. This photo includes leading lines amongst the pencil, good point of view from a different angle, Rule of Thirds, and also interesting levels of backgrounds. The clip of the pencil leads the eye through the image, the point of view looking at the small characters from a level pov adds a interesting effect to the image. The Rule of Thirds is captured in the image because all of the subjects are spread out through the scene. Lastly the interesting level of backgrounds is defined by where the little figures are located in the picture. There is a character in each part of the image, the foreground, the middleground, and the background.
-Photo 2:
This photo is apart of my Portfolio because it includes a good amount of Communication aspects like a compelling subject matter and an interesting sense of feeling of mystery. It also exemplifies the Rule of Thirds in the Composition of the image. The photo contains an interesting pattern/texture with the wooden and concrete posts. In the background you will notice a couple of things that add to the feeling in the image, there smoke coming from factories or houses which add to the mysterious feeling. In my opinion, I think that this is one of my favorite images from my Portfolio.
-Photo 3
This Photo was taken down by the Braga Bridge and the Brightman Street Bridge near the water. I used Photoshop to overlay the old bridge over the new bridge to compare the past and the Present. Once I had overlayed them, I then changed the image to greyscale to add to the historic feeling of the image. It includes Technical aspects with photoshop. This image also contains some compositional aspects such as leading lines amongst the bridges, black and white, and Distance from how far this image was taken. Lastly this image contains an unexpected composition because no one would expect to capture and set up an image like this in asuch a way including a certain feeling.
-Photo 4:
This Photo was apart of the Disguise project that I had done earlier in the year. I chose this photo to be apart of my portfolio because I thought that this project was very different than all of the other projects and also because this picture includes various aspects that complement it. There were many technical aspects/ performances that went into the process of creating this image. I used the filter tool, the clone stamp tool, the insert shape tool, and lastly the color exposure tool. The balance of the subject throughout the image is very equal as well which appeals to the eye. If the subject was not centered, the final product may not look as good. There were not many more aspects that went into the production of this image, the only thing I made sure to do was not to make the subject's face too dark to the point where you cannot tell what is trying to be conveyed.
Photo 5:
This image is of a light bulb that was taken on the porch behind my house. This photo was used for the architecture project to add to the theme of my house. This photo is apart of my portfolio because it is a very intriguing and unique photo. This photo includes some aspects from each category. It includes a shallow depth of view because the background is blurred out and the closet subject matter is in focus. It includes leading lines amongst the post on the deck, they lead the viewer's eye across the rest of the light bulbs lined up with the main one. This photo also includes a good rule of thirds aspect because the image is very spread out and there are no blank spaces in the image. I chose to not convert this photo into black and white because I felt that it would take away from the color that is being brought out in the main light bulb.
Photo 6:
This Photo is one of my particular favorite photos from my portfolio. This photo was used for the very first project that we did in Advanced Dig Photo, the project pertained to capturing light. This photo includes a balanced image because the subject matter is evenly spread out. I made sure that i had a high aperture to make sure that I had enough light to capture this image. If there was not a high aperture setting on the camera the photo would be much darker and not look as good. I also used a fast shutter speed in for this picture to capture the ripples in the bottom of the screen. I chose to leave it in color because I wanted to capture the light from the sunset for this specific project.
Photo 7:
This Photo was used for the diptych/triptych project in term 3, I chose to include this photo in my portfolio because I feel as though it includes a range of values. It includes a shallow depth of view on both sides and incorporates and interesting point of view from a different angle you do not usually see every day. I used Photoshop with this image as well by placing them side by side over a new blank page that had to be sized correctly in order to fit the format for the project. I think the bee image is very appealing to the eye because it draws all of the attention in the image straight towards it since there is not a distracing background to lead the viewer's eye away from the subject. If I were to change something about these two images I would have taken them from a different angle as well to add to the aspect of a unusual point of view.
Photo 8:
This photo was included in my impressionist images for the Photo Series 3 project done this term. There are some compositional aspects that are included in this image. It was created using an assortment of tools in Photoshop like the overlay tool, the darken tool, the lighten tool, the quick selection tool, and lastly the color converter tool. I wanted to make sure that I lightened the image much more in the middle than all of the surroundings because I wanted to attract attention towards the mystical chair in the middle of the image. This image contains black and white instead of color because I felt like it added to the ambiance of the image. This photo is very balanced and there are no blank spots amongst the image. I made sure to zoom in just enough when capturing this image to make sure that it included the main subject of the image which was the chair in the woods.
Photo 9:
This Photo was also apart of the Impressionist images project this term from Photo Series 3 as well. I chose this photo to be included in my portfolio because it includes a wide range of values that pertain to the certain aspect provided for us. It includes work with various tools in Photoshop because it was requirement for the project. I made sure to use a shallow DOF to make the subject in the distance out of focus to create a sense of mystery in the image. I also changed the color of the image to black and white to add to the historical aspect of the image. I overlayed a different texture over the image earlier in the process to add a sense of a rough looking texture to the image as well.
Photo 10:
Finally, for my last image i chose to include a picture from my disguise project earlier in the year. I had an assistant take this photo for me to capture the disguise of the costume in the image. I made sure that I used a high aperture to allow more light into the camera to capture this image since it was taken later at night. I used the clone stamp tool in Photoshop two times with different images to create this sense of mystery in this image. I also lowered the opacity of the other figures as well. This image follows the rule of thirds because the image is very balanced and even throughout.
